Quick Tips: How To Prep Your Wedding Invitations

You've worked really hard to create your beautiful wedding invitation! Here are some last-minute reminders and tips as you prepare to share them with your loved ones.

  • Take a complete invitation sample to the post office to be weighed before buying/applying stamps. The post office will advise you of the amount of postage for each invitation.

  • Don't forget to put stamps on the response envelopes!

  • Square invitations, regardless of size and weight, require additional postage. Square reply envelopes do too.

  • When stuffing and sealing your outer envelopes, make sure you have a glue stick handy if the flap doesn’t seal properly. You can also use double-sided tape.

  • In the event your guests neglect to put their name(s) on the response cards, it’s a good idea to number the cards, lightly in pencil, on the back, in the lower right hand corner. These numbers will correspond with your numbered guest list.

  • When stuffing the envelope, the invitation is on the bottom; the directions card is next; the reception card is next; and the reply card, tucked under the reply envelope flap (not inside the envelope), is on top. Everything faces up.

  • The front of the inner envelope faces the back of the outer envelope, so that your guests immediately see their names when they pull the inner envelope out of the outer envelope.

  • Some companies offer tissue. While tissuing is a custom of times gone by, and no longer necessary, some people prefer the elegance that it conveys. The invitation is covered by tissue, followed by the reception card, then tissue. The response set does not get tissue, as it is returned to the sender.
